Fordite, often called Detroit Agate, is a fascinating and unique byproduct of the automotive industry. It originated decades ago when cars were hand-painted on assembly lines. Over time, layers of colorful automotive paint overspray built up on the metal tracks and skids that transported the car bodies. These layers were repeatedly baked, hardening into a stone-like material. When this thick, hardened paint was cut and polished, it revealed mesmerizing swirls of vibrant colors and distinct patterns, much like a natural agate stone.
